Semiconductor revenues grew 10.4% in 2020 Gartner has reported that worldwide semiconductor revenue totalled $466.2bn in 2020, an increase of 10.4% from 2019.
âMemory, GPUs and 5G chipsets led semiconductor growth, driven by hyperscale, PC, ultramobile and 5G handset end-market demand, while automotive and industrial electronics suffered due to lower spending or a pause in spending owing to COVID-19,â explained Andrew Norwood, research vice president at Gartner.
According to Gartner, Intel retained its position as the No. 1 global semiconductor vendor by revenue in 2020, followed by Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and Micron. Intelâs semiconductor revenue grew 7.4%, driven by growth of its core client and server CPU businesses.

Qualcomm has announced that it has completed the acquisition of the CPU firm NUVIA. The acquisition plan was first unveiled in January when Qualcomm had agreed to pay $1.4 billion as part of the deal.
With the acquisition done, Qualcomm now expects to integrate next-gen CPUs across its portfolio of products including smartphones, laptops, digital cockpits, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, extended reality, and infrastructure networking solutions. The first Snapdragon products to benefit from NUVIA’s expertise will be CPUs designed for high-performance ultraportable laptops but those are over a year away according to the company.
