File photo Updated: Apr 24, 2021, 07:19 AM IST In important news for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) students of classes 9 to 12, the Board has introduced new changes to its assessment and evaluation process for the next academic session 2021-2022. This is in line with the New Education Policy. The CBSE released the new evaluation criteria on April 22 that mentions that the Board is moving towards Competency-Based Education (CBE) where questions will assess the application of concepts in real-life or unfamiliar situations. These will be part of the question papers of Classes 10, 12 board exams, and the final exams of classes 9 and 11.

Pokhriyal said that class 10 students will be evaluated on the basis of an objective criterion which will be prepared by the CBSE board.  Authorities will review the situation after June 1 for holding for CBSE class 12 board exams, 15 days prior notice will be given to students. The decision came after a meeting which was presided over Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and included Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and other top officials.

The report further says that although the government is open to reconsidering the examination dates, it was too early to indicate the exact changes in the exam schedule. In the last few weeks, students have launched an online campaign demanding the postponement of board exams. The demand had gotten support from leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and several other leaders.
