Sydney Sherrill made history with her fifth-inning double, breaking the program’s career record with the 52nd of her career. The shot off the right field wall, which also moved her into sole possession of fifth on the ACC’s all-time career list, brought home two runs and gave FSU a 4-0 lead.
Kathryn Sandercock earned the win in the circle, tossing the final 4.0 innings and allowing only two hits and one run with three strikeouts. Starting pitcher Danielle Watson recorded six strikeouts and allowed no runs in three-plus innings of work.
The Seminoles got on the board early when Kaley Mudge’s sacrifice fly to center scored Kiersten Landers from third for a 1-0 FSU lead. Another sacrifice fly in the fifth, this time from Kalei Harding scoring Elizabeth Mason from third, extended the lead to 2-0.

ATLANTA, Ga. The No. 14 Florida State softball team (6-1, 2-0) completed the weekend sweep of Georgia Tech (5-3, 0-3) Friday, defeating them 5-4. Danielle Watson started for the Noles in the circle as she pitched four innings allowing four hits and four runs with four strikeouts. The win marks the third win of the season for Danielle Watson. Florida State
The perennial ACC favorites will begin the season with the same status. The Seminoles are deeper in the circle with redshirt senior Caylan Arnold, redshirt sophomore Kathryn Sandercock, Louisville transfer Danielle Watson and redshirt freshman Emma Wilson. Arnold was 5-3 with a team-leading 1.40 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 60 IP in 2020 her first season at FSU after transferring from Tennessee. Sandercock was 9-1 with a 2.19 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 60.2 IP. The Seminoles have experience remaining from their 2018 WCWS championship team with Sydney Sherrill, Dani Morgan, Anna Shelnutt and Elizabeth Mason. Devyn Flaherty improved after competing in the Florida Gulf Coast League over the summer. True freshman outfielder Jahni Kerr is expected to make an early impact. True freshman Hallie Wacaser, a two-time Gatorade State Player of the Year in Arkansas and Under-17 U.S. national team member, is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the fall.
