BJP leaders in Karnataka protested against the state government s release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Former CM BS Yediyurappa staged a sit-in against the government, calling the CM and deputy CM agents of Tamil Nadu. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya demanded that Karnataka stop water release to Tamil Nadu. The state home minister said the government would handle the issue, while the CM stated that the state will challenge the order in the Supreme Court. The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee had ordered Karnataka to release 3000 cusecs of water.
Bengaluru: ‘Kannada Okkuta’, an umbrella organisation for Kannada organisations, on Wednesday claimed that the dawn to dusk bandh called by them on September 29, to protest against release.
All routes of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will be operational as usual on Tuesday despite the bandh called by farmer bodies over Cauvery issue.
Bengaluru bandh: Various farmer bodies, Kannada organizations, and opposition parties have called for a shutdown or Bandh in Bengaluru to protest against the order of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to release 5000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu. Protests have been planned at several locations in the city, and political parties have extended their support. The Bengaluru Police has imposed Section 144 to maintain law and order, and transportation services such as buses and cabs will continue to operate as usual. Restaurants will remain closed, and schools and colleges have been declared a public holiday.
Bengaluru News Live Updates (September 26) : Commissioner B Dayananda said, “If someone is observing bandh voluntarily, they are free to do so. But, if someone tries to enforce bandh, we are going to take action against those."
