New deacons a ‘blessing’ in their witness, service, says archbishop

Nine men were ordained to the permanent diaconate Saturday, June 12 on what Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez called “a great day of blessing for the church in Philadelphia.”
With COVID restrictions lifted in the city, hundreds filled the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul for the June 12 liturgy, at which Archbishop Pérez presided, assisted by his four auxiliary bishops along with dozens of archdiocesan priests and permanent deacons.

LINCOLN The public was able to get their questions about vaccines and masking answered during a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday.
The town hall, hosted by the Alcona County Commission on Aging in conjunction with Alcona Health Center, included panelists from District Health Department No. 2, Alcona Health Center, Alcona County Emergency Management, Alcona Community Schools, Solid Rock Church of God and Catholic Human Services.

LPENA Putting to use a grant of nearly $200,000 from the Michigan Opioid Partnership, Catholic Human Services is organizing wellness response teams emergency responders, medical professionals, law enforcement, and peer recovery coaches trained to respond to drug overdoses.
Prompt response to a drug overdose is crucial as a quick reaction to a heart attack, said Larry LaCross, clinical supervisor with Catholic Human Services.
Responding to that urgency, wellness response teams will connect within 72 hours with people who have overdosed, offering support and, when desired, connecting them to resources or helping them into treatment, LaCross said.
