‘Expect to feel church again.’ Michigan churches reopen doors for Easter Sunday

SAGINAW, MI For two decades, the Rev. Hurley J. Coleman Jr. has ministered to the congregation of Saginaw’s World Outreach Campus Church.
And for the past year, like many other faith leaders, he has done so virtually as members of his nondenominational Christian church have worshipped together from afar via Facebook, YouTube and other platforms.
But on April 4, Easter Sunday, he’ll welcome some of them back in person for the first time.
Some things will be different. There will be more empty seats, people will wear face masks, and the service will be shorter than usual. But other things perhaps the things that matter the most will be very much the same.
Catholic priest told parole board his sexual misconduct with teen was ‘shameful, inappropriate’

SAGINAW, MI In being interviewed for his prospective parole, a Roman Catholic priest told state officials his sexual misconduct with a teen was “shameful and inappropriate.”
After news broke on Feb. 13 that Robert J. “Father Bob” DeLand Jr., 74, had been approved for parole, MLive-The Saginaw News submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to the Michigan Department of Corrections for parole board members’ notes, recommendations, and findings.
DeLand in March 2019 pleaded no contest to second-degree criminal sexual conduct, gross indecency between two males, and manufacturing or distributing an imitation controlled substance. By pleading no contest as opposed to guilty, DeLand did not admit to having committed any crime, though presiding Saginaw County Chief Circuit Judge Darnell Jackson treated him as guilty when he sentenced
