A budget crisis for the Golden Gate Bridge district. Good evening, im alan martin. Im elizabeth cook. Board directors were faced with either raising the toll or cutting jobs. Don ford on the tough decision made just a few hours ago. Reporter the Golden Gate Bridge is in financial trouble. Serious financial trouble. Today, the board of directors took action. The Golden Gate Bridge is looking at a 48 million shortfall. The bridge says southbound traffic crossing the gate is significantly down. Bus ridership is down by 75 . And is down a shocking 96 . About 155 employees would be laid off. The total number of affected positions is a little over 200 and we have about 840 employees. So about a quarter of our workforce will be impacted. Reporter the decisions were made this morning on a conference call. One of the choices was to raise the total by two dollars, making it eight dollars to cross. That idea was rejected.
