Don ford on the tough decision made just a few hours ago. Reporter the Golden Gate Bridge is in financial trouble. Serious financial trouble. Today, the board of directors took action. The Golden Gate Bridge is looking at a 48 million shortfall. The bridge says southbound traffic crossing the gate is significantly down. Bus ridership is down by 75 . And is down a shocking 96 . About 155 employees would be laid off. The total number of affected positions is a little over 200 and we have about 840 employees. So about a quarter of our workforce will be impacted. Reporter the decisions were made this morning on a conference call. One of the choices was to raise the total by two dollars, making it eight dollars to cross. That idea was rejected. Our board decided that on ballots, the best thing to do is to strike a balance until we make the Effective Date after the holidays. And then, to not impose a toll or charge. Reporter the majority of the layoffs will be those in the bus operations and some in the ferry operations. President Roger Marenco was not buying the logic please, give us a break. These are men and women that have put their health, their safety, their lives and their families in jeopardy. These are the men and women operators who give life to the city. A woman found bound and gagged inside a burning Office Actually set the fire herself to cover up her financial fraud. The fire broke out in november of last year at investments in downtown. Deputies say 74yearold employee janice was found tied up with a broken nose. She told investigators she was ambushed from behind. However, deputies collected evidence that the 74yearold had embezzled more than 580,000 from her employer. When deputies confronted her with the evidence, they say she admitted to staging the fire and assault. She was arrested yesterday and released on bond. First, bay area has much needed rain. Lets take a live look at the Golden Gate Bridge right now. Folks getting home and coming in. We have been watching the showers. Being blown across lanes of traffic. A little bit of wind out there too. But its not just the north bay or San Francisco this evening, everybody is getting a little bit of rain and this is a soggy shot. Theres plenty of rain still on the radar and appeared to northbay is drying up. Most of that rain is concentrated from the golden gate to the east and south. I80, north of that. Plenty of showers.
