Reactions after alleged threat at Catholic Central Secondary School in London

There was a police presence at Catholic Central Secondary School in downtown London, Ont. Friday after an alleged threat was discovered on a bathroom wall. Students described the school atmosphere as “eerie,” including grade 12 students Maddy Trottier and Camila Tsun-Rubio.

Posted: Apr 23, 2021 5:00 AM ET | Last Updated: April 23 An artist s rendering of what the new Catholic Central Secondary School will look like.(WECDSB) comments Construction is finally going ahead on a new $30-million Catholic Central High School in Windsor.  For many years, there have been calls for improvements in the physical spaces between schools in Windsor, and I often was asked by parents that they felt ignored and they wanted to see more meaningful improvements to the facilities, Education Minister Stephen Lecce said in a virtual news conference Thursday.  Plans to build a new school have been in the works for years, with the province giving the board the green light to move forward on construction at the start of this year. 

Catholic school board director Terry Lyons retiring

Article content The announcement was made at the board meeting Tuesday. Lyons has spent 32 years in education. He began his career as a teacher at the York Catholic School Board before returning to his native Windsor in 1999. He worked for 16 years at the public school board here, becoming a vice-principal, principal and superintendent. He then moved to the Catholic board in 2015. He began his tenure there as superintendent of human resources, became associate director and was named director in 2017. Most recently, Lyons oversaw securing a new site for a replacement for Catholic Central Secondary School. The provincial government announced two weeks ago that it has approved building the new $29.4-million school, allowing the board to go to tender.
