Cathi Abbs, who retired in 2020 as executive director at Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce, did not let grass grow under her feet.
Sturgis City Commission on Wednesday voted unanimously to appoint Abbs to fill a vacancy on the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts Board.
Abbs has attended recent arts board meetings and submitted her application for the vacancy, filling the role of marketing chairperson for the board.
Board member Nate Matkin will move to the finance chairperson role, vacated by Gary Hansen’s resignation.
Abbs’ appointment to the board of directors is for a term expiring in May 2022.
