Just a few weeks before Megan Montgomery was shot to death in the dark, empty parking lot near Mountain Brook High School, she posted on social media that she wanted to help others avoid the trap of abusive relationships.
“I want to show them the warning signs, why it is so hard to get out, to help them with the legal system, to help them leave sooner. I started writing my book in the hospital and I used it as therapy,’ the 31-year-old Montgomery wrote.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The tragic case involving Megan Montgomery in Mountain Brook is once again shining a light on domestic violence.
Anyone can be impacted by domestic violence. The YWCA of Central Alabama works closely with domestic violence survivors and says it’s important to recognize the warning signs. Those signs include a partner trying to establish or gain control, telling you that you never do anything right and insulting, demeaning or shaming you, especially in front of others.
