SEVERAL Limerick students enjoyed success at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2021 Awards Ceremony, which took place virtually because of Covid-19.
A total of 16 awards were presented to students from Limerick schools for their impressive projects entered in this year’s exhibition which concluded yesterday afternoon.
One of the Limerick award winners was Keelin Murphy from Laurel Hill Secondary School FCJ who was awarded the Fr Tom Burke Bursary Award after she was deemed, by the judges, to be the best communicator.

DESMOND College in Newcastle West has a whopping 10 entries in this year’s BT Young Scientist Exhibition.
Teacher and young Scientist co-ordinator Donal Enright breaks down the 10 projects. There are 16 students involved – 13 girls and 3 boys – in five individual and five group projects. Five junior, four intermediate and one senior project. Seven in technology, two in mathematical, and one each in physical, chemical and biological categories.
Emma O Shea and Rebecca Enright have already hit the headlines with their polarised, anti-bacterial face shield, for use with hurling helmets. Emma and Rebecca were aided in the testing of their product by one Gearoid Hegarty.

Kildare reign as Leinster minor football champions was brought to an end by neighbours Offaly in Newbridge today.
Ken Furlong s side registered a memorable 2-10 to 2-7 success and full-forward Keith O Neill was instrumental, the Clonbollogue youngster accounting for 1-4 of their final tally.
A blistering first-half performance from the visitors at St Conleth s Park, during which they outscored Kildare by 2-6 to 0-2 in the opening 28 minutes, helped the Faithfuls into their first provincial final in ten years.

OFFALY AND MEATH will contest the Leinster MFC final in the new year after winning their respective semi-finals this afternoon.
Offaly prevailed with a three-point victory after a four-goal battle against Kildare while Meath had six points to spare in their win over Laois.
After trading points in the opening stages, Offaly built up three-point lead at Newbridge, with Keith O’Neill and John Furlong on target for the Faithful county.
