Hexham awarded £80k grant for local cultural programme

A Tyne Valley town has been boosted with a grant for its local cultural programme. Hexham’s High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) has announced it will receive £80,000 from Historic England – one of 60 high streets in the country to do so. The funding will be used on a pilot project named Animating Hexham, working with several artists and the local community. Katy Taylor, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Queen’s Hall Arts and Chair of the Hexham Culture Network said: “We hope that the cultural programme will inspire people to share their memories, get creative, and feel a sense of ownership of Hexham’s rich heritage, as well as thinkin about the future of our historic town.

Local councillors pay tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh

Buckingham Palace announced at lunchtime that Prince Philip had died at the age of 99.  Coun. Hexham family s devastation as cat is shot in the garden

A HORRIFIED Hexham woman has described the moment she discovered her pet cat had been shot by an air gun. Kathie Keady’s nine-month old kitten Alfie suffered devastating spinal injuries in the attack, which left him paralysed from the waist down, and reliant on a catheter. Five days after the cat was shot in the garden of the family home, Kathie acted on veterinary advice to have Alfie put to sleep. “I don’t know how anybody could do this,” she said. “My grandchildren have had to come to terms with what has happened. It has devastated our lives.”
