One week into the largest vaccination programme in the country’s history, media have been barred from direct access to our first vaccinated citizens. Is that the best approach? Cate Broughton reports. In a strangely quiet Christchurch International Airport at midday on Wednesday, three nervous border workers faced the glare of the media spotlight. Standing together in front of a “Unite Against Covid-19” banner, health protection officers Debbie Smith and Jimmy Wong, along with a cleaner named Cherry, told media they had received a vaccine that morning – along with about 40 colleagues.
