Last Chance Cat Ranch didn t deserve to be skewered at policy committee meeting

By Letter to the Editor on May 29, 2021. Editor: I watched with complete disgust the lynch mob called the Community Safety Standing Policy Committee made up of councillors Hyggen, Mauro, Parker, Campbell and a guest appearance by Carlson. I watched their meeting this week as they completely skewered one of our beloved animal rescues, The Last Chance Cat Ranch. A property owner brought forth personal issues littered with false information in a bid to get the rescue removed or shut down. His claims of over 100 cats living in the house is completely false (they have about one-third of that between the main house and retrofitted garage). The bylaw officer strongly refuted his claims of deplorable and uninhabitable conditions, and he also stated animal welfare had been through and all cats were being cared for in direct opposition to what the neighbour claimed. Last Chance Cat Ranch attempts to set record straight

The dozens of volunteers, and numerous other monetary supporters, of the Last Chance Cat Ranch are setting the record straight about what they do in the community after recent insults leveled against them at the Community Safety Standing Policy Committee meeting of city council earlier this week. “All our volunteers are very upset,” confirmed Laurie Olmsted, a Cat Ranch volunteer and board member who is the designated spokesperson for the organization on this issue. “Some of us work 20 hours a week working with the rescue in some capacity to hope we make the difference. Where in reality we have saved thousands of cats over the course of time the organization has been in existence.”

Committee discusses cat bylaw

Committee discusses cat bylaw Yes The Community Safety Standing Policy Committee of city council held a wide ranging discussion during Wednesday’s meeting on what it would take to bring in a cat bylaw in Lethbridge which might limit the number of cats a homeowner could possess to something in the neighbourhood of six felines in total. The discussion was prompted by a submission to the SPC from community member Josh Russomanno who said he has been having issues with the Last Chance Cat Ranch, and which, he suggests, has more than 100 rescue cats on their property near his home.
