Environmental coalition to host webinar on the future of oil drilling in The Bahamas

NASSAU, BAHAMAS Our Islands, Our Future (OIOF), a coalition of business owners, environmental groups and individuals who oppose oil drilling in Bahamian waters, announced yesterday it will host a live webinar on the future oil drilling in The Bahamas on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. The event aims to take a closer look at the array of natural resources and industries that would be adversely impacted by an oil spill in our waters. The webinar is open to the public and will facilitate the exchange of opinions and expertise. The webinar will include a mix of presenters who will provide insight into the science of oil drilling as well as offer case studies on previous oil spills. Discussions will focus on whether The Bahamas has the know-how and resources to remediate such a disaster or even manage an oil-producing industry.

Oil drilling called golden opportunity for Bahamas

Oil drilling called ‘golden opportunity’ for Bahamas Stena Drilling’s Stena IceMAX drillship. A shareholder in Bahamas Petroleum Company (BPC) yesterday expressed concern over the pushback to oil drilling in Bahamian waters calling current court proceedings “misconceived” and saying the case could discourage potential foreign investors from considering The Bahamas.  Tudor Lomas, a citizen of the UK, currently residing in Amsterdam, said after following court proceedings and the arguments presented by environmentalists, he’s worried that if oil is indeed found in Bahamian waters, Bahamians would push against it, “missing out on a golden opportunity”. “Reputable international business comes to countries that respect the rule of law,” he said.
