questions. not only of the government s efforts towards re-election, but their handling of tonight s protests. and i think, in particular, there may be some criticisms. there already are of the president whose only statement so far on tonight s events was a twitter post, a twitter image a few hours ago condemning the violence. so, i think that s really been an absence of leadership and i think there will be some quite serious questions in the morning for the administration. you talk about twitter and, you know, i ve been reviewing your twitter feed. the handle is lablair1492 for viewers who want to see the images that you re talking about. the images of blood stains on the floor. you pointed this out in your reporting a moment ago, there are a number of people in jail and a number of people injured. the casualty number still unknown at this point.
the air strike occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. on saturday morning local time. the staff, as far as we re aware, did not have any warning at all. the area around the hospital was saw heavy fighting and was, according to local elders, under taliban control. they re saying nine staff were killed, and 37 were injured. that does not include the patients who were in the main building that was hit at the hospital. there were over 100 patients, and. they have relatives, as well. that casualty number is likely to rise tomorrow when there s more clarity over what actually happened. and can you give us a sense of is this trauma center inside the hospital or connected to the hospital? it s inside a compound where all the facilities are, it s been there for four years and has worked in afghanistan since 1980.
a fertilizer plant killing as many as 15 people. 24 hours later several volunteer firefighters are missing and feared dead. more than 160 people are injured. our fox correspondent is in west, texas. dominic, tell me what s going on there tonight. well, we now have a casualty number of in excess of 200. that s the latest numbers we ve got. with regards to actual number of deaths, the authorities are still putting it in the range between 5 and 15 at this time. the mayor of this town, a community of 2500 people, says between 8 and 10 bodies have been recovered, and they think half a dozen more bodies will be found in the hours ahead. search will continue throughout the night. one victim, the dallas fire rescue captain, kenny harris. he was 52 years old, a 30-year veteran of the service. he leaves behind a wife and
we also know now, john that two people were sent to dallas, texas, the parkland hospital. still unclear their condition. the total count that we have right now, 173 people injured in this situation. all right, george. just to be clear, that number, we ve had it for a little while. you haven t seen a new wave of injured there? you know, we are diligently checking with these hospitals to keep up. it s a fluid situation, especially, chris, as we have daylight and we, you know, learn more from these investigators as they go house by house looking for victims, looking for the potentially dead. at this point the casualty number we understand is anywhere from 5 to 15. that number is significantly less than what we initially heard from firefighters who said it could be as high as 70. now 5 to 15. and at our cuount, 173 injured. all right, george howell at
