And caltrans took action that will affect the morning commute. Giant generators were brought into the caldecott tunnel, a major traffic route to the east bay. Caltrans is using it to keep the tunnel lights and fans on or risk a traffic nightmare. The tunnels themselves have very large fans that circulate to make sure the exhaust from the cars are actually taken out of the tunnels. Caltrans first thought some of the four boers in the tunnel would have to be shut down but bringing in those generators may correct that problem. The tunnel on highway 1 near pacifico is also open this morning. There were concerns about that closing. Caltrans brought in more generators there. A double slide thousands of commuters use that slide on the kim attevo toast every day. Authorities now say they were monitoring the situation, that it was not an explosion. And that instead, it was a planned and very controlled release of chemicals. In a press conference they held just minutes ago, officials said when the chemicals were released, they made a pop inside of the containers where they were released. The Sheriffs Department says their officers were taken to the hospital as a precaution and the chemicals are not toxic. Again, those explosions were something that they expected. We are following breaking news in the city of oakland. This fire claimed the life of at least one person. This fire started at 4 00, on the fourth floor of an Apartment Building near lake merritt on fairmont avenue. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained that that apartment unit. One person has died in that fire. This is the 400 block of fairmont. Officials have not given us much information on who that victim is or how this fire started. But, again, we are on this story. They got the call just before 2 00 about a fire
