A veteran of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars who went to help a broken-down motorist has been disqualified after being caught drink driving. Samson Grundy, 29, admitted driving a van when he was over the alcohol limit when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 6. The court heard that just after 11.20pm on June 9, police officers found a vehicle in the Castle Caereinion area with its bonnet up and in front of that vehicle was a Ford Transit van. Officers suspected that Grundy, the driver of the van, had been drinking and a roadside breath test later confirmed that he had 46 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millimetres of his breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
