Mkhwanazi, who is facing a number of charges including murder, rape and aggravated robbery is expected to launch a Section 174 application to have the rape charges against him dropped.
The court held a trial within a trial to determine the admissibility of Mkhwanazi’s confession made to his father, Mark Khumalo. The confession will now be officially used against him in his main trial underway at the same court.
Proceedings saw a number of developments throughout the course of this week, particularly a brief standoff between the accused and State Advocate Lwesikane Mashabela on Thursday who accused Mkhwanazi of lying to the court.
