Man accused of growing 780 cannabis plants faces court

Premium Content Subscriber only A Kyogle man accused of cultivating 780 cannabis plants near Casino will have his case moved to the Lismore Local Court to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions to continue with proceedings. Justin Leslie McDonald appeared before Casino Local Court on Thursday charged with one count of cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis and possessing a commercial quantity of cannabis. Originally from Queensland, Mr McDonald, who has family in Yamba and properties in the Kyogle area, was arrested in December after police allegedly located 780 plants on one of his properties. The NSW Police prosecutor on Thursday said the brief was compliant, and the DPP were expected to proceed with the matter.

Ngallingnee Jarjum Tabulam & District Community Preschool will be sentenced over six issues which include not adequately supervising children and failure to notify of serious incident among other matters. The school will be sentenced over failing to notify of serious incident at approved service, not protecting children from harm or hazard - approved provider, children in care of service not adequately supervised, not protecting children from harm/hazard - nominated supervisor, children not adequately supervised - nominated supervisor and not have prescribed policies and procedures - provider.

Two men arrested over alleged $20,000 drug haul

Premium Content Two men have been charged with drug offences after a random vehicle stop in Casino. Richmond Police District officers stopped a Black Range Rover 4WD on Dyraaba St, Casino, at about 2.35pm on January 21. The officers spoke with the driver, a 35-year-old man, and passenger, a 34-year-old man. Police searched the vehicle and allegedly located more than $1000 in cash, a small amount of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. More than 26.5 grams of methylamphetamine was also allegedly located on the passenger. The estimated potential street value of the drugs is $19,875. Both men were arrested and taken to Casino Police Station.

Premium Content Subscriber only A CEDAR POINT woman will face sentencing next year after pleading guilty in Casino Local Court to driving recklessly, furiously or at speed or manner dangerous. Hannah Buscall, 18, was found to have driven a Honda CRV in a manner dangerous to the public on Bariamal Lane at Cedar Point between 8:15pm and 9:05pm on September 11. The court was told this involved the vehicle allegedly reaching 90km/h and swerving the car on the road. The court also heard that one of the five passengers allegedly climbed out of the CRV and ended up on the roof of the vehicle while it was in motion.
