There are shades of the Mark Rylance tailoring movie The Outfit in this Moroccan Oscars submission about intrigue and heartbreak inside a kaftan store in the northwestern city of Salé. Here cash-strapped Halim (Saleh Bakri) is a taciturn master tailor, or maalem, who makes hand-embroidered kaftans, while Mina (Lubna Azabal) is the brusque wife and business partner who is facing, as the film begins, a recurrent bout of breast cancer.
