Offensive language and imagery were recently found scrawled over petroglyph panels on Birthing Rock, a piece of ancient human history the Bureau of Land Management estimates is at least 1,000 years old. The BLM is asking the public not to attempt to remove the vandalism as they are currently working with professional conservators to repair the site. This incident is the second, very public vandalism of petroglyph panels on Moab’s public lands in recent weeks. Plus, extended wildfire seasons are a reality across the West.
