The ambitious set of targets were meant to lift the worlds poore poorest eradicating poverty, and many more things. It was time limited and came to a close this year. The world did well. Around the world the way health and poverty are conventionally measured show improvement. Now theres plans that are more ambitious. Reporter back in 2000 the former u. N. Secretary general came up with the plan, the Millennium Development goals consisted of eight targets. The mdgs would run for 15 years. That time is now up. So was it a success . Well, its mixed. One target was to half the proportion of People Living on less than a dollar a day. That was met in 2010. The other goal, reduce the Maternal Mortality ratio, that number did not go down at all. Missoula YWCA family shelter opens On any given night in Missoula, 50 families are homeless but the YWCA’s new shelter is hoping to bring more resources to address that. and last updated 2021-05-06 18:09:39-04 MISSOULA — Missoula has a high homeless population compared to other parts of the state and a large portion of that population is homeless families. It s a problem compounded by the pandemic but a new service aims to help those families escape domestic violence, and get back on their feet. Homelessness is a growing crisis in Montana that will only be made worse by the proposed $1 billion cut from health care services now being considered by the state legislature. For years now, homelessness in our communities has been akin to a house that’s slowly catching on fire — and the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown gasoline on the flames. Over the last year we’ve seen a dramatic rise in the number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness across Montana. For example, before the pandemic, Missoula’s largest encampment would have up to 50 people living in it. During the pandemic, that number more than doubled to over 100 people.
