Chennai: Tamil Nadu saw a huge surge in vaccination numbers for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday. More than 81,000 people were inoculated taking the total state toll to 6.7 lakh.
Also, Tamil Nadu recorded 482 positive cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, thereby taking the state toll to 8,53,449, as per the health bulletin.
Four people succumbed to the contagious virus disease on March 4, pushing the fatality count to 12,508 in the state, the second-highest in the country after Maharashtra.

CHANDIGARH: As Covid-19 cases continue to rise, Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh has ordered restriction on indoor gathering to 100 and outdoor to 200 persons from March 1.
He also ordered strict enforcement of Covid guidelines like wearing of mask and maintaining social distancing besides conducting 30,000 Covid tests per day.
During the virtual review meeting on Tuesday, the chief minister also authorised the deputy commissioners to impose night curfew in hot spots in their districts if needed and adopt micro containment strategy.
Amarinder not only directed the police for strict enforcement of all guidelines, but also ordered the department of excise and taxation to be the nodal agency to monitor all restaurants and marriage palaces.

After the central government claimed in Rajya Sabha that 162 doctors have died so far due to Covid-19 in the country, the Indian Medical Association expressed shock and said that 734 doctors lost their lives due to the disease, of which, 431 were general practitioners.
