Former city attorney Bill Broughton to challenge Wheeler in Bremerton mayoral race
BREMERTON Former Bremerton city attorney Bill Broughton announced Wednesday that he is running for mayor of Bremerton in 2021, becoming the first opponent to publicly challenge incumbent Greg Wheeler.
Broughton, 68, served as the city’s attorney from 1982 to 1987 before starting his own private practice in Silverdale. Broughton said a lack of progress in Bremerton over the last four years as well as restrictive and expensive city development regulations spurred him to run for the city’s top position.
“I don’t see a lot of progress right now, Bremerton seems to be stuck, not really doing much or going anywhere,” Broughton said.
