HOUGHTON The state of Michigan honored Michigan Technological University’s COVID-19 lab to commemorate its one-year anniversary.
At Friday’s Board of Trustees meeting, State Rep. Greg Markkanen presented Board Chair Brenda Ryan with a tribute commending the lab. In addition to Markkanen, the resolution was signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist and State Sen. Ed McBroom.
“This has been an incredible achievement known around the state,” said Markkanen, R-Hancock.

ESCANABA Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic more than one year ago, the support and generosity of the local community to local healthcare workers has not only been inspiring but continuous.
Last spring as stay at home orders were introduced and personal protective equipment (PPE) was in short supply, the United Way of Delta County and the Community Foundation for Delta County each granted $5,000 to the OSF HealthCare Foundation to provide additional PPE to health care workers as part of its COVID-19 relief efforts. At the same time, members of the community started sewing and helped to donate hundreds of homemade masks as well. Also, for the better part of a year, there have been many meals ordered,
