Roanoke county police are still piecing together what happened after confirming that a man was shot by an officer. At 7 15 last night, they received a call that a man wearing a bandanna and hoodie was waving a gun off of route 419. We spoke with a witness who made the call to police. He says he was driving when he saw the man. Thomas gill, witness i saw his gun in the right hand. So he was waving it at cars and he turned around and he was waving it at me so i turned around and took a left and i called 911. The suspect was transported to the hospital. We do not know the persons condition right now. That witness tells us he heard at least five shots but its not clear who fired all of them. From his house, a wooden outline marks the spot where harris was found. Ricky harris took us there. Harris police told us to mark the area, so we did. Off camera harris grandson said his grandfather died in a spot that he loved the farm where he had spent so much of his life. He grew up in evergreen, the son of a sharecropper. When his father died, he took up the farming himself as a way to support the remaining family. Juanita milstead sister he stayed there and worked the farm so my mother would have a place to live until the siblings were all grown. Evergreen is where he spent the rest of his life. When he wasnt on the farm, he was serving at a nearby church thats damaged but Still Standing following the tornado. Milstead he was a good christian man. That was the main thing. He loved his lord. Police say this happened monday morning around 8 30 when a 31 yearold sturbridge woman driving a Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling eastbound on route 20 in objection ford. Inside her car was an 8 month old boy and a 24 month old boy. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene as police say the female driver for reasons under investigation crossed that centerline and entered the westbound lane where they she cement truck. The 8 month old boy is on life support. The 2 month oldies at u Pass Medical Center receiving emergency treatment. The Impact Police say was so severe it pushed the car into a third vehicle driven by 55year old south bridge man. That man and his passenger were well. The truck driver i am told is a 34yearold oxford man. He was transported to st. Vincents hospital in worcester and is expected to be okay. Over the scene on route 20 right near the charleston line. Two people were killed in this crash, involving two cars and a cement mixer, one car and a truck collided and another car hit another vehicle, route 20 is expected to be closed in both directions for several more hours.
