Last Updated: May 25, 9:03 a.m. Darius Giddens, who would have turned 22 in two weeks, died on Monday (May 23), likely as a result of internal injuries he suffered after a fight at the Coliseum, a night club on Beach Street in Daytona Beach. Two-thirds of Flagler County’s population 65 and older has at least one shot of the vaccine as of today. (© FlaglerLive) As Flagler Health Department staffers and National Guard members were administering the one-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine to school employees at Flagler Palm Coast High School gym Saturday, a group of those who’d just received their shot and were waiting the required 15 minutes of observation just broke out in dance. “The moment came when we looked over our shoulders with the paramedics guiding the dancing along with some teachers,” Bob Snyder, the Flagler County Health Department chief who was leading the clinic that day, said. “It just was an automatic, joyful, cheerful, spontaneous reaction to getting that shot.”

Belle Terre Swim Club, in Deficit, is Not Closing Yet But the School Board Needs Help Keeping It Open

The Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club is again facing deficits. (© FlaglerLive) The Flagler County School Board is inviting the county commission and Palm Coast government to a joint meeting to find ways to keep the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club open. The school board has owned the club since 1996.  School board members don’t want to close the facility. But for the second time in six years, the club is in deficit and the district is using dollars designed to run its K-12 operations to keep it afloat, though the club is used primarily by adults. That’s not a tenable situation.

Flagler Schools Will Replace Most Covid-Positive Alert Letters With Web-Based Dashboard Updated Daily

Covid testing at the Flagler Health Department in Bunnell. (© FlaglerLive) In late summer, as the Flagler County school district was preparing to start the delayed school year, form letters began to be issued to certain people whenever a positive coronavirus case involving a student, faculty member or employee was confirmed.  Letters reporting at least 215 such cases have circulated so far, each like the one that, late yesterday, announced two positive cases affecting students at Buddy Taylor Middle School. The letters, generally emailed, go to everyone in the school or the department affected, refer to protocols to be followed and include information about Covid-19. The frequency, lack of specificity and similarity between letters has left recipients more jaded than informed.
