The renovated State Drama Theatre named after acclaimed Georgian director Alexandre Tsutsunava in the western Georgian region of Guria has reopened.
Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvi, who attended the opening ceremony yesterday, said ‘this unique theatre, with its history going back 150 years, is now the true adornment of Ozurgeti’.

Garibashvili said the theatre has been renovated with direct financing from former chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili and the assistance from his Cartu Foundation.

The founder and leader of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, announced he is leaving politics forever. In his last interview with Georgian public television, Ivanishvili underlined that he would no longer support GD, either as head of the party or even as a member. Former Prime Minister of Georgia and the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili has told Entrepreneur online magazine that he will donate 90 per cent of his material assets worth 1.5 billion USD, except those with credit or other obligations, to the Cartu Charity Foundation.
He stated that the purpose of the assets ‘cannot be changed’ in the process of management or alienation, because most of them ‘are not ordinary business projects’ but projects which are targeted for the development of individual branches, or even entire regions, and are designed to ensure improvements in economic, tourism and other fields.
