reporter: in that crucial time, survivors inside both classrooms made desperate calls to 9-1-1. she identified herself and whispered she is in room 112. at 12:10, she called back and room 12 guised multiple are dead. 12:13, she called again on the phone. at 12:16, she called back and said there is eight to nine students alive. minutes later, a student called. reporter: student/child called back, was told to stay on the line and be very quiet. told 911 he shot the door. approximately 12:43 and 12:47, he she asked police to come now. something s got to be done now. where do we go from here, you know? you were wrong. what dwe do now? you know, it s my question. what are we gonna do now? the countability, you are talking about. right. accountability. somebody s got to be responsible. reporter: warning signs missed. ramos asked his sister to help him buy a gun. she flatly refused. that was in september of 21. reporter: with social media group chats and posts a

even though he was firing shots outside for some 12 minutes, there are so many unanswered questions. here is what we do know. 11:28 a.m. central time the suspect crashed his truck into a ditch near the school. he exited the vehicle, fired at two witnesses across the street. at 11:40 a.m. the gunman entered the school through an unlocked door on the west side of the building. four minutes later, officers entered the school, received gunfire then retreated from the building as they called for backup. it was not until an hour later, full hour, 12:44 p.m. local time that a tactical team made entry and killed the suspect. this morning we are learning more about just what was going on inside that classroom. mia got some blood and put it on herself to pretend she was dead. she had bullet fragments in her back. that poor little girl and so many stories just hike it. we ll have more on mia s story in a moment. let s begin though on the investigation. cnn crime and justice correspo
minutes of terror. officials say the gunman who murdered 19 children and two teachers was inside the uvalde, texas elementary school for 40 minutes if not longer. during that time, he murdered 21 innocent people. the families of the children you see on your screen, torn apart in a matter of seconds. their parents, brothers and sisters, friends, will never see them again. yesterday s attack has brought the number of shootings to four or more in the united states to 213 incidents this year alone. 213 incident where is four or more people have been shot. to put that into perspective, today is the 145th day of the year, which to do the basic comparison, mean there is have been more mass shootings than days in the year 2022. and there have been at least 30 shootings at k-12 schools already this year. this is unacceptable. but we must say it, it is the reality. and because there s been no action time after time after time again, it actually is accepted. and today, we heard from tex
