Piedmont to buy 4 Georgia hospitals from HCA in $950M deal May 3, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail ATLANTA (AP) One of Georgia s largest hospital systems is seeking to get getting bigger, buying two hospitals in Macon, one in Cartersville and one in Snellville for $950 million. Piedmont Healthcare announced the purchase Monday from HCA Healthcare. The move would give Piedmont 15 acute care hospitals statewide, as it jockeys with other major Atlanta-area health systems for size and market power. If regulators approve, Piedmont would buy 310-bed Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, 310-bed Coliseum Medical Centers and 103-bed Coliseum Northside in Macon, and 119-bed Cartersville Medical Center. The deal also includes two inpatient psychiatric hospitals, one in Macon and one in Snellville.

The Cartersville hospital received an A grade in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing how well it protected patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. The past year has been extraordinarily difficult for hospitals, but Cartersville Medical Center shows us it is possible to keep a laser focus on patients and their safety, no matter what it takes, said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
