Members of the Carson City Leisure Hour Club will share in the history of Laura D. Fair, Fatal Mistress. Four times married, twice widowed and twice divorced all by the age of 33, Laura Fair was the first woman in California sentenced to hang for the murder of her lover, Alexander Parker Crittenden in November of 1870.
On Wednesday, October 21, Jan Loverin, who has served as curator of the Nevada State Museum’s Marjorie Russel Clothing and Textile Center for over 30 years, will share her extensive expertise on the ‘intimate’ history of men’s and women’s underwear with the Leisure Hour Club.
On Wednesday, April 19, the excitement of storytelling will be evident when local author William ‘Bill Hill shares his craft and stories with members of the Carson City Leisure Hour Club. William Hill is a naturalized northern Nevadan, a native of Indianapolis, Indiana and a product of many places and stories.
Former Director of the Nevada Department of Corrections and current Nevada State Prison Preservation Society President, Glen Whorton and Society Vice President Robin Bates will update the Leisure Hour Club membership on the current status of the historic Nevada State Prison located in Carson City.
