Good autistic representation is few and far between. Most stories featuring autistic characters use them as “inspiration porn” to either cause other characters to grow and change or inspire the audience by achieving something
in spite of their autism. More recently, film and television have made an effort to tell more authentic autistic stories with the autistic community pushing for characters to be played by autistic actors because they are most qualified to portray the experience.
