Grocery stores, clothing companies, even restaurants keep all kinds of data on their customers.
But consumers have been largely left in the dark about what information businesses save, how they store that information and whether they sell data to other companies.
Enter the Ohio Personal Privacy Act (House Bill 376). It’s about empowering consumers to control how their data is being collected and processed, Rep. Rick Carfagna, R-Genoa Township, said.
The bill would give consumers a set of rights when it comes to their personal data. Ohio consumers could:
Ask to see what data a company has collected.
Request a correction to any inaccurate information in that data.
