Cruising Critters join Path 22 travelers

With spring biking season underway, pathway users will find they are joined by a menagerie of characters when they move through the underpass located near the intersection of highways 22 and 390. “Cruising Critters,” a mural by Jackson artist Marco Miller featuring wildlife pedaling on bikes of their own, was recently installed in the highly trafficked underpass. The work is one of the latest projects from Jackson Hole Public Art. “Any time there is massive infrastructure that has a huge amount of public interface, we’re always hoping to integrate public art,” said Carrie Geraci, executive director at Jackson Hole Public Art.

Tree Time project takes award at Moonshot

Six artists shot for the moon Thursday, hoping to earn votes for their public art proposals. Jackson Hole Public Art livestreamed its Moonshot 5x5 event from the Center for the Arts. Ideas presented ranged from murals — both physical and virtual — to textile recycling on a grand scale. At the end of the night, Tenley Thompson was named the winner of the “Buzz Aldrin Award” for garnering the most votes, receiving $1,000 for her idea “Tree Time,” which would bring slices of fallen tree trunks into public art space. Specific rings would be marked with notes about what people were doing at that time in the tree’s growth.
