Scott County Sheriff s Office investigating racist pamphlets left in neighborhood

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) â The Scott County Sheriff s Office confirmed Tuesday it is in the early stages of an investigation into pamphlets containing racists and anti-Semitic messages that were left in the Mallard Point neighborhood. It s terroristic, said Carolyn Wedel, who lives in the neighborhood and sits on the board of the Mallard Point Homeowners Association. There s no other word for it. It s heinous.
Wedel told LEX 18 she was on a run with a neighbor when her neighbor spotted the pamphlet, which was in a bag with a small rock.
Included in the memorabilia is a Kansas City Chiefs helmet signed by defensive end Frank Clark.
The benefit auction will have over 150 items and will take place online this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. It will start at noon on Friday, Feb. 5 and run until 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7.

The goal of the nonprofit organization is to raise $60,000 this year to help offset operational expenses for programs offered by CAPS of Salina. Last year the auction raised just under $60,000. Anything we have that is not funded by grants we either have to raise the funds or get donations, said Lori Blake, CAPS of Salina executive director.

As a series of multi-colored lights illuminated a newly restored tower atop the Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts, Stiefel executive director Jane Gates hoped it would serve as a “beacon of hope” for the Salina community.
“We put on the marquee ‘Rise Again,’ to be a beacon of hope for everyone coming back from the (COVID-19) pandemic, and for all the beautiful, amazing work that has been done downtown,” said Gates, who has been director of the historic nonprofit theater for 14 years.
