Final counts don t change results of close Fox Valley races

Just two votes were the final margin of victory in a pair of Fox Valley-area races that were too close to call until Tuesday s deadline for counting the final ballots in the April 6 election.
In Burlington, Mary Kay Wlezen defeated two-term incumbent village president Bob Walsh by a margin of 47 votes to 45.
Walsh said he was disappointed, but accepted the final outcome. When there s that low a count, there s really not much chance for an error, he said.
In St. Charles Unit District 303, Ed McNally, Heidi Fairgrieve and Carolyn Waibel were the top three finishers, with Kate Bell edging out Jim Stombres by two votes, 3,278 to 3,276, for the last board seat.

Contested races for the mayor s office and five City Council seats drew more St. Charles voters to the polls in 2021 than in 2017. (Mark Konkol/Patch)
ST. CHARLES, IL Voter turnout in St. Charles was higher in this spring s local races than the 2017 election, thanks in part to the contest for the mayor s office at the top of the ballot.
Ald. Lora Vitek defeated fellow Ald. Maureen Lewis last week in the race to replace outgoing Mayor Raymond Rogina, unofficial election results show. That matchup, as well as contests for five seats on the City Council, led to a small increase in voter turnout in 2021 compared to 2017.

Twenty-two people applied for the position, and seven finalists were interviewed by current board members at Monday s meeting. The board members discussed the interviews during closed session and notified the candidates of the decision on Tuesday.

We are excited to have Mr. Lackner join the Community Unit School District 303 school board and believe that his professional experience and personal qualities will be a welcome addition, said School Board President Nick Manheim in a statement.
