In mid-December, the Vancouver park board announced the homeless camp in Strathcona Park was to be cleared. A month later, it’s still there and it looks like it will be there for some time.
Tuesday, the city and B.C. Housing started installing showers, washrooms and a “warming tent” on the street beside the homeless camp, which indicates it won’t be going anywhere soon.

“Before, they were talking about housing before Christmas and those new properties being online before Christmas,” said Fiona York, a spokesperson for the homeless camp. “In the latest memo, there was no timeline given. The services being put in are a pretty big investment. … I don’t see that being done if housing, people being moved out, is imminent.”
