Maternity services at Dorset County Hospital need improvements, the health and care regulator has said, after an inspection found poor leadership, under-developed governance processes, and safety issues.1
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) lowered the overall rating on maternity services at the hospital from “good” to “requires improvement” after finding that medicines were not always managed safely, infection rates were not monitored, and staff were not always up to date on mandatory training, including basic life support and safeguarding. The rating on how well led the service was also declined from “good” to “inadequate.”
