It was a Play Reading like no other. A story told by 10 actors seated before a house-full audience in the congested upstairs library of Goethe Institute.
This past year must have broken records for the number of productions staged in a 52-week period when there were two and occasionally three shows happening the same weekend.

Under the direction of founder Aroji Otieno, Bold Theater of Kenya, based in Nairobi, will present short performances that reflect the company s experience of navigating the global pandemic by shifting to digital theatre, promoting cross-cultural collaborations and sustaining a mentorship program that local and International Artists together.

Summary
Kenyan theatre, just like most aspects of the performing arts, came to a grinding halt over the past year when the Covid-19 pandemic locked down most folks in their private abodes.
Granted a few groups tried to meet over Zoom, but that never could compare to the ensemble experience of acting and working with others on stage.
But a significant sign that the art’s world is opening up in a remarkable way is the long-overdue reunion of the Mbalemwezi Players.
