ROCHESTER Doug Lachance has resigned his Ward 1 City Council seat, according a statement Mayor Caroline McCarley released Wednesday morning.
Lachance is under investigation for allegedly grooming and sexually abusing teenage boys while he was mayor roughly 20 years ago, but he hasn’t yet been charged with any crimes.
In Lachance’s official resignation letter, which McCarley included in her statement, Lachance again stated he’s innocent of the allegations against him.
“It is with great regret that I have decided to resign effective immediately from my post as Ward 1 City Councilor, due to uncharged allegations reported by Foster’s,” Lachance wrote, referring to an April 7 Foster’s Daily Democrat article detailing the allegations and investigation. “Although I adamantly deny the allegations against me, or any inappropriate behavior for that matter, an ongoing investigation will do nothing but serve as a distraction to City business. ROCHESTER Mayor Caroline McCarley and other city officials didn’t return requests for information Tuesday about whether City Councilor Doug Lachance has resigned from his post.
Lachance, 56, is under investigation for allegedly grooming and sexually abusing teenage boys while he was mayor roughly 20 years ago. The Ward 1 councilor, who couldn t be reached for comment, has denied the allegations and hadn’t been charged with any crimes as of Tuesday.
Lachance had informed McCarley he would resign Monday, according to communications multiple city councilors said they received from McCarley over the weekend. Some said McCarley called them to inform them of the news, while Ward 2 Councilor Palana Belken said McCarley informed her in an email early Monday morning.
