The women’s Division I season is officially underway, as the first weekend action did not disappoint. Teams were chomping at the bit to get back on the field after a long hiatus. As can be expected, there are always nervous jitters in the first game of the season, and this was the case in many games. Additionally, weather all across the East Coast was particularly wet and cold even in the Southern states.
At least five ranked teams let their opponents get on the scoreboard first before pulling ahead, and other teams in the Top 20 ranks let it get too close for comfort at times. Through it all we saw a glimpse of what to expect the next few months. UNC and Notre Dame are loaded on both ends. Once again, Northwestern is an offensive machine. The Gators head to Louisville, Kentucky Saturday to face the Cardinals in their first game of the season.
This is the first meeting between Florida and Louisville in program history.
UF has not faced an opponent since March when the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to NCAA sports. Florida’s 6-2 season is in the past with new beginnings on the horizon.
