Lewiston scores in bunches in drubbing of Edward Little

10 of 10 Lewiston s Charlotte Gastonguay, middle, gets ready to take a shot on goal during Friday s game against Edward Little in Auburn. Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal AUBURN The Lewiston girls lacrosse team was eager to get on the field after a couple of stints in quarantine. In their first game of the season, the Blue Devils’ offense made up for lost time in a 16-3 win over rival Edward Little at Walton Field on Friday. Senior Charlotte Gastonguay led the attack with eight goals, along with two assists, while senior Brie Dube scored four goals and had three assists. “We really worked well as a team and our tempo was really high,” Gastonguay said. “We always went super hard on the groundballs and on every play. I think that’s why we came out with the win because of our tempo of play and how we executed that.”

St Dom s mops up Edward Little at soggy Walton Field

Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal AUBURN Edward Little got caught in St. Dom’s offensive deluge in a girls lacrosse game on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. Downpours made conditions less than ideal for both teams, but the Saints (2-2) still found the open net and sailed off with a 17-3 victory over the Red Eddies. The Saints moved fast despite a waterlogged field, scoring three quick goals in the first half. Junior Emma Roy punched in her first of three goals to spark St. Dom’s offense. She was followed by back-to-back goals by Taryn Cloutier, who led all scorers with five.

St Dom s/Gray-NG/Winthrop hold off Red Hornets late rally

7 of 7 Red Hornets Sophia Castagna slaps the puck out of the control of St. Dominic s Abbie Ross during Saturday s game in Auburn. Andree Kehn/Sun Journal AUBURN   On senior night for St. Dominic Academy/Gray-New Gloucester/Winthrop, it was the seniors who played a pivotal role in the Saints’ win. Gigi Ouellette had two goals and Tayrn Cloutier scored the other as the Saints defeated Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland 3-2 at Norway Savings Bank Arena. The seniors were excited for their final home game for a group of nine players. “We have a large group, nine girls and I never have really had that, to be quite honest with you,” Saints coach Paul Gosselin said. “It was kind of a mix of (girls who have played) and some new girls. It was nice to see the numbers come out and nice to see them be added to the program. But it was nice for them to come out earlier, but it’s always tough to see the four-year (players) leave. I have spent a lot of time with them.”

Madison Forgue had eight, with a basket in each quarter. “She has a really good presence on the court,” Ouellette said. “She’s just one of our leaders out on the court, being able to calm everyone down.” Winthrop had eight different scorers, including seven in the first half, which the hosts ended with a 37-9 lead. “In practice the past few days we’ve really worked on taking our time and finding the open looks on offense, rotating the ball multiple times, and the girls looked really good today doing that,” Ramblers co-coach Jess Merrill said. “So it’s good momentum moving forward and good confidence-booster for them.”
