Local COVID-19 numbers hit record highs on Friday with the health unit reporting 49 active cases and declaring another outbreak at a Perth facility.
The explosion in virus cases – 13 more than the previous day – can almost entirely be attributed to an outbreak in Lanark County that started with a private gathering at the end of February where a single infected person transmitted the virus among the household, according to the health unit. From there, it rapidly spread via workplaces, sports activities and child-care centres in the Pakenham, Almonte and Carleton Place area.
