Club also signs five minor league free agents

Arlington, Texas The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has signed free agent INF-OF Charlie Culberson to a 2021 minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Culberson, 31, saw action in 9 regular season games for Atlanta in 2020, batting .143 (1-7) with no home runs and one RBI. He was also on the Braves roster for all three rounds in the club s postseason run, going a combined 2-for-3 in 3 games. He entered last season on a minor league deal with Atlanta and had his contract selected on July 21 before the start of the abbreviated campaign. He was designated for assignment on September 8 and assigned outright to the Alternate Training Site on September 10 before his contract was selected again ahead of the playoffs on September 29.

ARLINGTON Veteran utility player Charlie Culberson and pitcher Tim Dillard were among six players signed by the Rangers to Minor League contracts, the club announced Monday.
Culberson is the only one of the six who has been invited to big league camp. Culberson has played all four infield positions plus the two corner outfield spots in an eight-year career with the Giants, Rockies, Dodgers and Braves. He also has four appearances as a pitcher.
Culberson, 31, is a right-handed hitter who s hit .249/.293/.391 with 23 home runs and 111 RBI in 916 career plate appearances. He was 1-for-7 in nine games with the Braves in 2020 and is 12-for-38 (.316) in 21 career postseason appearances. He is the grandson of former Red Sox outfielder Leon Culberson, a teammate of Ted Williams with the 1946 American League champions.
