State Awards recognize people who have made significant contributions to high school athletics in North Carolina that go beyond a single accomplishment or having an outstanding win-loss record. The awards are named after individuals in each category.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) is proud to announce the NFHS State Award for Outstanding Service for 2020 will be presented to Deran Coe, Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Athletic Director.

Sen. Jay Chaudhuri, the Democratic Whip, said he shares some of the concerns about the NCHSAA that his Republican colleagues have brought forward, but he believes a proposal to dissolve the NCHSAA and create a new organization is moving too quickly through the legislature. Chaudhuri said he would prefer working with the NCHSAA to find a solution.

Cherryville, Jones win Exemplary School Award from NCHSAA

Chapel Hill, N.C. The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced the selection of Jones and Cherryville High Schools as the 2020-2021 Exemplary School Award winners. This award is presented annually from nominations received from member schools. The awards are given as a cooperative venture among the NCHSAA, the North Carolina Coaches Association and the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association. In addition to a trophy and a banner for display at the respective schools, each school receives a $1000 cash award.
The Exemplary School Award recognizes the top overall school in the state in terms of the “total program,” including but not limited to athletic success, the scope of athletic opportunities offered, facilities, community interest and involvement, academics and the like.
