It is clear on any given summer day that the state does not have enough state parks with frontage on Long Island Sound. The beaches and parking lots often reach capacity by noon, which means would-be beach goers who have traveled a good distance are turned away and sent home. But that is not the only reason the state should keep Seaside Park in Waterford as a state beach. The site has historical and aesthetic value that belongs to the people of Connecticut. Condominiums can be built anywhere, but state treasures such as Seaside State Park should not be privatized. Seaside belongs to the people of Connecticut. Selling it would be like giving away the family jewels.
