May 10, 2021 The Salem Waterworth Memorial North ball field was officially named Paul Headland Field Saturday during a well-attended dedication held by the Salem Parks and Recreation Dept. Shown from left, daughter Stephanie Linder, wife Carol Sue and son Dan Headland. The late coach-teacher-minister was a successful coach of the Salem High School softball program, guiding the Quakers to a regional berth in 1997. He was a standout coach of youth girls leagues in Salem and played for decades in the local men’s leagues. In 2011 he was honored with the Spirit of Salem award from the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame. He was well known as an inspiration for youth of all ages. He passed away in 2017.(Salem News photos by J.D. Creer)

Forest Services for Carol Sue (Quail) Stephan will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Clark Shields Funeral Home in Forest by Justin McCall. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.  Friends may call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday.  She died on Thursday, April 29, 2021 in Kenton. Donations in her memory may be made to Hardin County Master Gardener Volunteers or Friends of the Library in Forest in care of Clark Shields Funeral Home, 301 S. Tue, 02/02/2021 - 7:08pm     Carol Sue (Patterson) Lewis died Tuesday, January 26, in Lubbock, Texas, from complications caused by COVID-19.     Carol was born September 22, 1943, in Snyder, Texas, to Homer and Jessie B Patterson of Fluvanna. Carol’s father died when she was 2 years old, and she was raised by Jessie B and O.D. Jackson of Gail.     Before the days of kindergarten, Carol started school in Gail at 5 years old. Carol’s mother was county clerk at the time, and it was widely reported that Carol was put in school a year early to reduce her pestering county courthouse employees. She later skipped 2nd grade, graduating high school at 16.
