MILLIS What is in a name?
The age-old question is one that is being debated in Millis as the school board considers whether the district will drop the name of the Mohawk people from its narrative.
On Tuesday night, the board heard opinions on the matter from various community members including past and present students, parents and teachers as part of a public forum held during its regular Zoom meeting.
Commentators were divided between two camps: One that feels the Mohawk name is about pride, respect and unity, and one that feels it is ultimately disrespectful of a culture to which Millis has no connection.
